We have been running our Vortex air purifier ever since it arrived and have been surprised - we thought the air inside our house wasn't too bad, but we can feel the difference and see for ourselves the ash and soot precipitated by the negative ions, as you can see here in a sealed room after one day. I am impressed with it. I have it stationed downstairs (approx 15 square metres) and I notice it is working upstairs as well which is approx 15 square metres too. We had a damp smell downstairs and the vortex complete eliminated that smell. The amount of stuff I am wiping surround the unit is black! Spring, like most people, is particularly bad in our household so I was interested to see if the air purifier would be of help.
I do think it has made a big difference. I noticed that when my son would leave his room and be in the main part of the house or go to school etc he was being affected by the pollens or cats but, as soon as he went back into his room, the symptoms would dramatically reduce (even with the cat sitting on his lap). By the way, he's a teenager so he spends a lot of time in there!
Also, he was prone to nose bleeds during the night and since having the Wein Vortex he hasn't suffered one. He may get them at other times but he's usually out of his room or elsewhere when he gets them, and the amount of nose bleeds in general has reduced.
So, all in all, I guess it's doing a great job, but, as you said, it doesn't appear to be doing anything! - Anna

How does it work?
The Personal Air Supply AS300R uses a coronal discharge ring, battery-powered, silent and with no moving parts, which adds a positive ionic charge to airborne particles as they are drawn into the air purifier. These charged particles then repel each other out of the breathing zone. A bubble of purified air envelops your face and head. There is a slight sense of air moving upwards over your face without any smell.
Perfume molecules not bonded to dust or other particles will still be smelt occasionally but any particulate material or perfume droplets will be attracted to other surfaces in an inactive form and adhere there.
The Room Ionic Air Purifier Vortex VI3500 uses pulsed ionisation to generate not just a powerful stream of 3.4 trillion negative ions per second into the air but swirls them spirally at 150 ft/sec to sweep the room clean and precipitate pollen, mould spores, animal dander, dust and dust mites, viruses, toxic chemical fumes, bacteria, odours and smoke.
Where’s the science?
These units have been scientifically tested, peer-reviewed and published in respected scientific journals. A detailed list of references is given below. There is sound science about removal of dust particles, aeroallergens and airborne micro-organisms, including bactericidal effects.
These Wein models generate less than 0.028 parts per million of ozone, well within established health limits.
The AS300R rechargeable model produces 50 million positive ions per cubic centimetre at up to 1 metre from the unit in still conditions.
The room air purifier VI3500 generates 3.4 trillion negative ions per second and comparison testing with similar precipitation-type ionic air cleaners show that it is 10 times more effective than competitors.Read Vortex manual specifications
Recent science shows that use of a personal or room ionizer will markedly enhance the effectiveness of a surgical mask in protecting against viruses such as the coronavirus.
What is it good for?
The Wein units provide a first line of defence against harmful airborne particles down to the virus size of 0.04 microns and is thus effective against perfume, dust, pollen, bacteria and viruses, mould and smoke.
The ultra-light miniature wearable Personal Air Purifier is a "must have" for air travel, movie theatres, waiting rooms, or any confined areas where people congregate. It is very unobtrusive when worn in public.
The silent and efficient Room Ionic Air Purifier cheaply and continually sweeps your room clean, depositing particles that can be easily removed by routine household vacuuming and cleaning.
How do I use it?
For the Personal Air Supply slip the unit over your neck and turn it on for several minutes before entering an area of potential impurities. You will feel the very gentle bubble of pure air forming around your face and head. There is an almost imperceptible upward air flow.
If you are walking slowly in gentle wind then air mixing actually increases the effectiveness of the Wein, but if wind or walking speeds increase then the unit becomes less effective as the bubble is pushed away from your face.
It can be used on your nightstand so the air around your pillow is clean and free of pollutants.
We recommend turning your Wein Air Supply on and wearing it at home for half an hour to get used to it, before your first real trial. Adjust the lanyard before you use the unit the first time (particularly the AS300R which is too long): open the safety release on the lanyard, pull out one end and re-knot to the desired length, then cut it off and reassemble. The unit should sit just on the top part of your sternum.
For the Room Ionic Air Purifier, place on a surface away from the wall, stand up the wand and turn on. It will remove 95% of PM 2.5 particles within 30-120 minutes. The cleanliness of the air has to be experienced to be believed. Don't forget to remove the white plastic cover from the wand when you first unpack it!
The Wein Air Supply AS300R contains a USB rechargeable lithium battery. This lasts about 30hrs before USB recharge.
The Wein Room Ionic Air Purifier VI3500 uses a standard 240v plug. The unit draws only 4 watts so can be run all day for a few cents.
The Personal Air Supply AS300R is about 7 x 4 x 2 cm, with a 60cm breakaway strap plus a clip on the back that can be used to attach the Wein to clothing. The weight is 60g.
The Wein Room Ionic Air Purifier VI3500 is 20 x 19 x 4 cm and weighs 505g.
How long is the guarantee?
We give the standard Australian consumer guarantee of 12 months. If there is a failure of the Wein Air Supply in that time please return it to PO Box 718, Woolgoolga NSW 2456 and the unit will be replaced at our expense or a refund made, your choice.

Can I return it if I am unhappy?
Yes, of course. You can return the Wein Air Supply in working order at any time in the first 30 days for a full refund including postage. Return it to PO Box 718, Woolgoolga NSW 2456. Any feedback on the reasons for returning the Wein would be welcome.
Can I use the Wein Personal Air Supply on aircraft and other forms of travel?
Yes. For many this is the most important use of the Wein since it reduces the risk of catching disease and reduces the perfumes from personal products that can make travel in restricted places so difficult for those with chemical sensitivity.
It is highly recommended that you keep the plastic blister pack in which the Wein Air Supply is sold to show to airline and security personnel.

If your Wein Personal Air Supply makes a noise, like static or whining, then it may have a hair or some fluff stuck in it. There are no moving parts, so try tapping it not too hard on a firm surface like a table, to see whether something can be dislodged from the gold emitter. Blow in it too to see if something is stuck, even a low temperature hair dryer (DON'T MELT THE PLASTIC!). This is a rare fault but easily fixed.
What if the Wein AS300R makes a hissing or squealing sound? This is very unusual and means there is some dust lodged on the emitter. Just put your mouth over the blue-lit area of the unit and blow strongly a few times. This has fixed it immediately in the two cases where the problem was experienced.

How do you know that your Vortex Wein Room Ionic Air Purifier VI3500 is really working (since it is silent and requires little maintenance)? Check that there is a flashing red light - this means that the pulses of ionisation are coming from the wand. Turn it on in a room and after 24hrs wipe the unit and foam pad with a damp clean tissue. You will see black soot from precipitated dust and smoke particles on the tissue.
